VOICES OF BETHEL CHOIRThrough the inspiration of Ms. Eloise Curtis and Mr. Eric Evans, the Young Adult Guild was organized on Sunday, November 12, 1989 under the administration of Rev. Dr. Charles Pitts. The Guild met and plans were outlined that included the establishment of the Voices of Bethel Choir. In February 1990, the choir began singing His praises on each Second Sunday. Mr. Evans was appointed president of the newly organized group and Mrs. LaTrelle Avery Prator was appointed Choral Director.
As time passed, the Guild grew and its members focused on the youth of the church. In April of 1990, the Big Brother/Big Sister Program was initiated to provide the youth in the church support in their spiritual, social, and academic endeavors. The Guild also sponsored Halloween and Christmas parties for Bethel ’s youth and community. In 1991, Ms.Yolanda Copeland was elected president to carry out the missions of the Guild. In 1992, choir robes were purchased under the presidency of Ms. Sonja Hampton. The next year, Mr. Darren Dyson’s presidency enabled the choir to embark on several new endeavors, such as, donating new kitchen utensils, sponsoring SAT workshops for high school juniors and seniors, sponsoring the “Little Miss. Voices of Bethel Pageant”, sponsoring an African Attire Fashion Show, and contributing funds towards the church’s Building Fund. From 1995 to 2004, Mrs. Jacqueline A. Wilder served as president. During this time, the choir purchased tables for the Alpha Center and hymnals for the choir, presented the LaTrelle Avery-Prator Academic Scholarship, financially supported students of Bethel for continued academic studies, and donated a monetary Christmas gift to a needy family. In 2004, Ms. Sabrina Wise was elected president. Under her guidance, Christmas gifts were given to the Child Advocacy Center , and new choir robes were purchased in 2008. In 2009, the election brought new presidential leadership, Ms. Ashley Noble. Under her leadership the choir continued their support to the Child Advocacy Center. During this period the Lord blessed the choir to continue their support to Bethel Church. Without delay our financial assessment was presented during our anniversary. In 2011, Willie Fairell was elected as president. Quickly moving into action, the president initiated the choir’s process of reviewing its Constitution and By-Laws. In addition, following the choir’s tradition of community outreach a “Coat Drive” for the Lamar Elementary School was held during the Christmas season. Approximately twelve (12) coats were delivered to the school. As we look faithfully ahead to the coming years, we pray that the Lord will continue to shower us with His holy spirit as we continue to honor and glorify God’s name in songs of adoration and praise. Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven". In 2012 the faithfulness of the members of the Voices of Bethel was tested, For four years the Voices of Bethel performed were without a permanent choir director. During this period the Lord blessed us with two wonderful directors: Ms. Lowell Felder (relocated to Atlanta) and Mrs. April Isaac (Moved to another church as "Minister of Music"). Before they were signed as director and in between each period the Voices of Bethel still performed with accompaniment tracks using volunteer choir members taking the lead as director (Jacqueline Wilder, Willie Fairell and Christopher Kesler). Through it all the choir remained faithful, steadfast, unshaken and unmovable believing that we still had a ministry and that we are bound to deliver God's word through song.. In July, 2016 under the leadership of Reverend Augusta Hall, Jr. our beloveth Latrelle Avery Prator returned to the church as Minister of Music and to our choir family, April, 2019 Bro. Napolian Neloms was elected president of the Voices of Bethel. We're pressing on the upward trail! |
